Spotting a seasonal allergy in your pet

We humans aren’t the only species to suffer from hayfever you know – some animals can suffer from the same symptoms as we do when the spring and summer season comes around. If you frequently notice your cat or dogs behaviour changing around this time of year – you might want to ask you vet about whether they might be suffering from spring and summer allergies. There are a few things you can look out for at this time of year – and we’ve put together a list below, hopefully you’ll find it useful and hopefully if you’re noticing a few from this list in your beloved pet, you’ll take them over to the vets asap and ask about some remedies.

  • Hair loss
  • Change in odour
  • Constant paw licking or biting
  • Rubbing body against objects/ floor
  • Excessive scratching or chewing fur
  • Drippy eyes or overly dry eyes
  • Visibly runny nose
  • Redness of fur and skin rashes
  • Flaky or greasy coat
  • Increased sneezing and wheezing
  • Struggling to walk near plants or in greenery

There are of course other things that could be causing any of these symptoms (it might be an illness rather than an allergy) but if you’re noticing these symptoms at the same each year then this points strongly towards a seasonal allergy. There are some great remedies out there (either natural herbal ones or vet prescribed ones) so which ever you prefer, you’ll be able to find one perfect for them. Do be sure to check it out though – as it’s unfair to let them suffer through the summer!
